A3 Full Weekend Southbound and Northbound Closure Confirmed - Friday 23rd at 9:00pm to Monday 26th February at 5:30

The closure will be from 9pm on Friday 23 February until 5.30am Monday 26 February 2024 and will be closed in both directions between Send and M25 Junction 10.

The diversion route will take northbound drivers via Send, West Byfleet, Byfleet and Cobham. To travel southbound the diversion route is via Leatherhead, Dorking, Shere and Newlands Corner.

A diversion of potentially 25 miles going southbound and 28 miles going northbound - As indicated by the blue lines on the map below!

A typical car journey between the two points that are closed (the M25 Junction 10 and the A3 at Send should take roughly 10 minutes.

The diversion routes published by National Highways define routes that would take around 1 hour for those heading northbound or 40 minutes for those going southbound.

This closure of the A3 is the first of several full weekend closures that we will be undertaking during 2024 on the A3 and M25.

The second is planned for Friday 15 March 11pm to Monday 18 March 5:45am.

The M25 between junction 10 and 11 will be closed in both directions for demolition works and gantry installation.

National Highways say:

"Our improvements will reduce congestion, create a smoother flow of traffic and provide safer journeys for thousands every day.

Why is the A3 subject to so many closures?

Junction 10 is the busiest section of the M25 with over 300,000 vehicles passing through every day.

National Highways say:

"Our improvements will reduce congestion, create a smoother flow of traffic and provide safer journeys for thousands every day.

Our scheme will see:

  • New and safer routes for cyclists, pedestrians and horse-riders
  • An additional lane on the A3 in both directions from Ockham and Painshill junctions towards the M25
  • A larger roundabout with extra lanes to increase capacity
  • Free flow left turns at all four corners of the junction
  • Improvements to the A245 Seven Hills junction and Painshill roundabout
  • Safer access to Old Lane, Elm Lane, Heyswood campsite and San Domenico
  • Improvements to the local environment and wildlife "
