Family Countryside Events

This page is totally dedicated to the absolutely brilliant Elmbridge Borough Council Countryside Team and their great programme of free kids’ activities (www.elmbridge.gov.uk/countryside) running throughout the year come rain or shine!

We’re so lucky to have lots of green spaces on our doorstep such as Bushey Park, Oxshott Woods, as well as the Thames flowing close by.

It’s amazing what wildlife you can find too if you look and listen closely. If you haven’t taken the time to enjoy nature before, give it a go.

It’s fun, free and friendly!

The Elmbridge Borough Council Countryside Team have lots of outdoor ideas for you right on our doorstep in Hersham.

Children must be accompanied by an adult. Unless the event is drop in please arrive at the event start time.

Become an Elmbridge Countryside Volunteer

The Countryside Team runs a volunteer task on the last Wednesday of each month from 10am to 3.45pm.

The next task will take place on Wednesday 22 February and details will be published on this webpage beforehand.

Volunteer tasks are open to anyone who has an interest in working with the Countryside Team to conserve and improve Elmbridge’s countryside sites and does not mind getting their hands dirty! These tasks are often labour intensive and Elmbridge Countryside Volunteers provide extremely valuable aid to the Ranger Team.

All equipment is provided along with tea and biscuits and you can stay for as long as you like. A Countryside Ranger will be on hand to answer any questions about species of plants and animals that will benefit from the day’s task.

For more information please contact us or call the Senior Countryside Ranger on 07850 706521 or 07711 781119.

Work experience

At Elmbridge we recognise how important work experience is for those who are looking to take their first steps into a great career.  A wide range of jobs are available in local government that give students the opportunity to develop their skills and gain invaluable experience of working life.

If you are a student who lives locally, or attends school or college in the Borough, and is interested in learning about how local government serves the community then we would be interested in hearing from you.

When enquiring about a work experience placement please make sure you include the following:

  • an up-to-date CV (including the name and address of the school/college you attend, your date of birth and your home address)
  •  the dates you are available to work
  •  a brief paragraph on your work interests and aspirations

Please send any enquiries to our Organisational Development Team who will do their best to find the right placement for you.
